About us

Thank you for your interest in the Westchester Academy for International Studies PTA!  Working together we will make 2020-21 a year to remember!

We can’t do it without your help, though.  It takes a village, and there are so many ways you can help, even with little time.  As one person, it’s virtually impossible, but as a community, we can do anything!  Let’s Go Westchester!  Join the PTA!

“The PTA has done so much for us around campus. We have new furniture, additional resources in my classes and we were even able to go on a field trip because of their hard-work. Thank you for all do WAIS PTA!”

Who we are

PTA MYTHBUSTERS

FACT:  The PTA is for everyone!  Our volunteers are mothers, fathers and those who fill those roles.  We have a wide range of volunteers who:  stay-at-home; work part-time to full-time; have little ones at home, preschoolers, high schoolers and/or college students; are continuing their own education; and more.  We even have “pajama” jobs!

FACT:  Our PTA welcomes everyone and continues to need volunteers for various events, fundraisers, and committees year-round.  The current jobs and Sign Ups that we have can be found HERE.  We need you!  We want to know your name.  We are all here to make WAIS the best it can be.

FACT:  Only YOU can decide how much time you can give.  Even if you can help at just one event or handle one task per year, it would be greatly appreciated.  Remember we have a list of our “pajama” (jobs you can do in your PJ’s) jobs and Sign Ups HERE.

What we do

PTA MYTHBUSTERS

FACT:   Much of the PTA work can be done from home on your own schedule, or at events at night or weekends.  Yes, there is volunteering during the school day if you are able to do so.  But no one does it all, so choose what works best for you.

FACT:  While we are fortunate to have a few volunteers who return, we also welcome new ones every year.  We do strike up friendships and enjoy getting to know one another.  This year, we already have several new Committee Chairs and volunteers, and we have not all met each other yet.  Our volunteers range from 6th to 12th grade parents, so it’s a great chance to get to know parents from other grades you may not have met otherwise.

FACT:  Each year, the PTA brings back favorites and tries new activities, fundraisers and events.   Those new ideas come from volunteers.  For example, a volunteer thought it would be great to have a Spirit Store online and we made it happen.  While we try to plan ahead, we must all learn to adapt and be flexible so we are able to help our students, staff, and WAIS community the best we can every year.  And we want you to be a part of it all!
